Fotókiállítást nyitottunk – Óbudai anzikszok

GITTEGYLET

megnyitoÁprilis 30-án Óbudai anzikszok címmel nyílt meg szerkesztőnk, Németh Kriszta (Cippo) fotókiállítása az Óbudai Platán könyvtárban.

A tárlat június 10-ig látható.

Insulting words?

Not to me.

What most often creates change is what inspires us, a single moment that grabs us by the heart.

While earning my degree required due diligence to research and crafting well-ordered words, writing a blog post most often requires wringing out my soul before ordering any words.

While achieving academic excellent is worthwhile, it is often easily achieved.

Well, easily enough.

But, writing on the death of Canadian Cpl. Cirilllo or the tragedy in Paris is not so easy.

This requires searching within oneself to express universally heartfelt emotions.

Academic study is easy compared to breathing one’s soul onto paper.

In the blogging community, we bloggers share glimpses into those tenuous thoughts within the corners of our minds. The resulting blog posts have more potential to inspire…

Sports Day Celebration

November 24, 2014

Live Life in Crescendo

(In honour of today’s Sports Day,  a true sports story)

“Match point,” he called out.

The standing crowd hushed as he threw the tennis ball high in the air. As my short white skirt swirled around my bent knees, I tightly held my tennis racket ready.

Thwack!

Although usually not a competitive woman, this game I wanted to win. Especially since my opponent, the man now smugly awaiting the return of his high-speed serve, was the one who’d taught me all I knew about tennis.

When I met that guy, he’d been participating in amateur tennis competitions for years. Amazed that I’d never even held a racket, he insisted that it was high time that I did. He claimed that anyone can learn.

As I’d always struggled with coordination, I rather doubted that.  He even began to doubt it after several lessons. As we volleyed back and forth, I struggled to hold the…

Explore Longform with Writing 201

November 22, 2014

WordPress.com News

We often think of blog posts as being just a few paragraphs long, or being a “less serious” kind of writing. Not so! In this challenge, we’ll focus on writing longform pieces that are equally at home on your blog or in a magazine. Whether you have trouble organizing your thoughts in longer pieces of writing or simply want to challenge yourself as a blogger, Writing 201: Beyond the Blog Post can help.

What is Writing 201: Beyond the Blog Post?

Writing 201: Beyond the Blog Post is a four-week course to help those beginning to explore longform writing (or who are frustrated with their past attempts). Each week, we’ll focus on a different kind of piece, working our way from interviews — one of the easiest ways to get started with longer pieces — through instructional pieces and opinion pieces, ending with a personal essay. It’s the product of a range of writers…

Children’s Day 2014

November 20, 2014

Live Life in Crescendo

Children's Day Today’s International Children’s Day is a reminder that not all children experience childhood as a time of adventure, laughter and learning.

My sons were blessed to live in a place where their days were filled with simple childhood joys.

And, I was the blessed mother to live it with them. This A to Z of my five sons childhood is a celebration of that freedom.

What are little boys made of?

Slugs and snails

And puppy-dogs’ tails,

That’s what little boys are made of.

So True.

But oh, so much more.

Here’s an

Amazement at agility to swing on branches high enough to scarce themselves.

Bathtub rings of mud, experiments and bog slime from swimming.

Cats lunged, carried upside down, loved exceptionally.

Doctor trips taken for stitches, casts and concussions.

Eyes brimming with ‘we’re innocent’ boyish smirks.

Peter Only 1Flowers given with glowing smiles, picked from neighbour’s gardens.

Gerbil clinched too tight, tossed too high or within our…

Blood splattered everywhere.

Quick

Turn

Fire

He watched as his attacker crashed nearby, blood streaming from the bullet hole through his heart, soaking his shirt.

The shooter advanced, monitoring and stalking movement on the terrain. He would not, could not, be caught unawares. His very life was at stake.

There

Quick

Crack

As the rifle shot split the air, he raised his fist in silent celebration

To himself

Survival.

Briefly.

This relentless advancement must continue, knowing at any time, he…

Mission Incomplete.

The screen closes.

Eighteen year old Jeremy responded from his comfortable bedroom.

“I’m in here”.

Many often wonder today if the young men like Jeremy would sacrifice their hopes, their dreams and their future to fight for others’ hopes and dreams, and the future of others.

Just as they did in the past, these young men have and will respond.

Just as Cp. Nathan…
